The Numbers 20/21: CL Round 2

The Champions League is back for a third week running, and what better to whet your appetite for it than our most ridiculous team of the week post yet? Even with Ronaldo absent and Lewandowski not firing in gameweek 2, we saw a ridiculous number of strong, attacking payouts, and the team you see below seemed about the best way to fit them all in.

Borussia Monchengladbach went ahead at home to Real Madrid thanks to two goals from Marcus Thuram (83p), but Casemiro (74p) was vital to the comeback as he assisted the first and then bagged a late equaliser. Manchester United ran riot in the final 20 minutes while hosting Leipzig to eventually win 5-0. Marcus Rashford (79p) came off the bench to claim a hat-trick while Anthony Martial assisted one and won a penalty which he converted himself (80p). The most unfortunate of the Leipzig players was Marcel Sabitzer (-10p) who came on with the score at 1-0, conceded a penalty and earned a yellow card to boot. Mason Mount (2p) was another poorly-performing substitute, as he earned a base payout of -8p in his 20 minutes against Krasnodar. The same cannot be said of teammate Hakim Ziyech (73p) who grabbed his first goal in a Chelsea shirt to top off an excellent performance.

Alfred Gomis (76p) in goal is the only player in the side whose focus is entirely defensive – he makes the lineup after a wonderful display against Sevilla where he made eight saves. At the other end, Joao Felix (99p) was the top scorer of the week as he bagged two goals to give Atletico a 3-2 victory against Salzburg – the most impressive part of this was his monstrous first-half base payout of 38p! With Neymar going off injured early on, Moise Kean (73p) bagged both goals as PSG swept Basaksehir aside, and finally Lionel Messi was, of course, on hand with a goal and an assist to help Barcelona to a 2-0 victory of their own over Ronaldo-less Juve.
